1968 Ford Mustang Fastback GT 302 - V8 Auto

It’s no secret that we’re partial to a 1960s Mustang here at Duke of London. It’s a car that inexplicably transcends time and remains insanely cool. The Mustang was launched in 1964, uncharacteristically for the American automotive industry halfway through a production year.

The Mustang fastback, however, came slightly later on in September of 1964 for the 1965 model year. The whole range was a raging success, building a comparatively small and nimble sports car on the platform of the Falcon resulted in Ford’s most iconic model. In fact, to this day, the Mustang nameplate remains Ford’s longest-running and arguably most successful.

A star on the silver screen too, the Mustang’s ability to ignite a passion for cars extends across generations. Some watched Steve McQueen hustle a Highland Green car through the streets of San Fransico in Bullitt, and those who watched an RB26 Nissan Skyline powered car, drift down the mountains of Japan in The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift.

This particular Mustang was built in 1968 Mustang GT Fastback. Over the years, thanks to their popularity, many Mustangs have become GTs, this car is an original Factor GT car. Externally, it’s finished “Gulfstream Aqua”.

It’s a bright shade of blue that is accented by a white side stripe package. The paintwork is in excellent shape, with a deep shine throughout. Throughout the car, the chrome finishings are all in great condition too, and they further help to elevate the paint. The car sits on a set of brand-new polished Magnum-style alloy wheels wrapped in new tyres which do look the part, however, if you prefer the car can be supplied on original-style GT steel wheels.

Step inside and you’re greeted by a full-turquoise interior. The upholstery is in excellent condition, as are the door cards, trims and headlining. The interior benefits from a restored AM/FM factory radio and working air-conditioning. A factory fit system, not anything aftermarket we might add! The bucket seats make for an extra comfortable cruiser and the thin-rim steering wheel completes the tactical package.

The mechanicals are also tip-top, thanks to some extensive work throughout the car's life including most new coils and leaf springs as well as new shock absorbers. The car benefits from having disk brakes, a C4 automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

In the engine bay, you’ll find the J-code 4-barrel carburetted V8, fitted with an alloy intake manifold. The engine runs great and offers plenty of power and torque. It is mated to the aforementioned C4 automatic which shifts smoothly through the gears. The soundtrack comes courtesy of a dual exit exhaust.

Mustangs as nice as this are getting harder and harder to find, they’re highly desirable and cars with an extensive history and long-term ownership like this are even rarer. This car not only benefits from a wide array of optional extras but it also comes with a Deluxe Marti Report, something key to identifying the true history of a Mustang.

If you’re looking to add something just a touch special to your garage this could well be the car for you. Few cars will make you feel as special as a Mustang will. Whether you’re looking for something to enjoy on the weekends, and burble your way to the village pub. Or if you’re looking for something enjoy on a cruise into the city, this Mustang can do it all.

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
